WRITING TASK 2
You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.
Write about the following topic:
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Write at least 250 words.
It has recently become a common trend among people to consume more ready-to-eat food as to meet their busy life style. In my opinion, I think that these kind of foods can bring about more problems compared to any advantages they might bring.
Admittedly, there are some basic benefits of people consuming convenience foods. Firstly, these ready-to-eat foods are time savers. This means that people don’t have to plan in advanced nor they have to follow a recipe that would take hours to make. Secondly, these foods allow people to step out of the daily cooking routine. For instance, people usually get tired of eating the same dishes or leftovers day after day. By having the choice of eating a dish that is not commonly made in the household, people might feel renewed as they are stepping out of their comfort zone.
Nevertheless, despite the advantages above, I think people could face serious drawbacks from eating convenience foods. One potentially dangerous problem is that they lead to poor eating habits and health. These ready-to-eat-food are packed with high levels of sugar, salt and artery clogging fats, which lead to develop high blood pressure, heart attacks and diabetes. Another obvious issue is that since all these products are already made, people do not have the control over the ingredients nor the quantities being used. For instance, people will reheat a package in the oven and when they are about to eat it, they will find the dish too salty, sweat or simply not so appealing.
In conclusion, developing poor health or not having control over what is being eaten far outweigh any of the minor benefits that could result from people eating convenience foods.
