Four main Criteria used to assess Test Takers’ Performance in Task 2
Common Errors in Writing Task 2 Academic
Starting to write without first understanding the essay question
If you do not understand the essay question(s) it is very difficult to complete Task 2.
Starting to write without first reading the task instructions.
Task instructions show you what type of essay to write. Therefore, they are very important and you should read them carefully.
Starting to write without first gathering ideas.
If you do not have ideas it is very difficult to complete the task. Therefore, brainstorming for ideas before starting to write is essential.
Writing long body paragraphs.
If you write only two body paragraphs you need to write 90 to 100 words per paragraph and describe more than one idea per paragraph. Long paragraphs do not work very well for the IELTS Task 2 because they are not usually very coherent.
While it is a good idea to use linking words to link ideas and paragraphs, test takers will be penalized if they overuse linkers.
Introducing a new idea in the conclusion.
You should list the main ideas and major details discussed in your essay in the conclusion paragraph. You shouldn’t introduce any new ideas!
Not proof-reading the essay.
You should spend the last five minutes of the essay to proof-read your writing. If you don’t, you will score LOW in Grammatical Range and Accuracy.
WRITING TASK 2 (Academic)

Task 2 (Academic) Sample—A real test taker’s answer
On recent years, some people think that parents should teach children how to be good members of society. On the other hand some people believe that school is the place to learn about it.
Observing the issue I could choose, and my preference would be parents and family should teach their children at home first. Family or a home is the basic institution for a new born child. They are all time learning from their family members. How their family members react with people or community. Human is a social being specially children are follow and copy things and people who are near to them. After that they will learn from school academically.
According to analyze the pro’s and cons I prior the parent to teach their children proparly and it start from them. However some people belive that children will learn things from school, they believe that education is the backbone of a society. Some times parents are not that much careful about their children in that case school is the best institution for them.
Research shows us the data that those children start their learning from the begining at home they are doing very well in the future. They taught by their parents that well behave with the society is a great intaraction for whole neighbourhood. As well some lesson their teacher teach them in their school. In the long learn they do very effective work for the society.
In a nutsell, I can say that parents are the first instructor for their children and then the school. Home is the first institution for children. Or we can say, charity begins at home.
